harlem valley psychiatric hospital
Driving down Route 22 in New York on a recent trip, my camera and I happened upon a collection of rather old-looking, enormous brick buildings nestled in the hillside. Can't resist a challenge. Research showed that the 80+ structures were constructed in 1924 on a few hundred acres scattered throughout the valley. 1n 1994, the institute took its last breath, and has remained undisturbed since. Here I documented what I "legally" could. A very thought-provoking subject matter, seeing such a massive operation so suddenly cease.
